Save On Energy Bills

Start enjoying savings on your heating bills

Up to £40,000 in Funding Available from GOV.UK

If you’re an E.ON customer, you could get free E.ON insulation grants that will help you reduce your energy bills and carbon emissions. Homes without insulation have been proven to lose around one-third of their heat through their walls, closely followed by their roof. E.ON, along with other large UK energy companies like EDF, British Gas, npower, and more, have a responsibility to fulfil the government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.

This scheme is designed to make domestic properties across the country more energy efficient by reducing their carbon emissions and lowering their heating bills to ensure vulnerable and low-income households can easily access financial support. Qualifying individuals through ECO can receive free insulation grants from their energy company to cover the cost of having these energy efficient measures fitted.

So, if your supplier is E.ON, various types of insulation can be installed in your home to improve heat retention and save you money.

Who is eligible for free E.ON insulation?

To be eligible for insulation grants with E.ON, you or someone in your household should be claiming one or more of the qualifying benefits for the latest version of the Energy Company Obligation, ECO4. This is to make sure that households and individuals who truly need financial aid with their energy bills can receive it easily through energy providers and local authorities. The ECO4 scheme can offer free cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, room in roof insulation, and internal insulation.

The qualifying benefits for E.ON insulation grants through ECO4 are:

  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Warm Home Discount Scheme Rebate
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Child Benefits
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Housing Benefit (new benefit under ECO4)
  • Pension Credit Savings Credit (new benefit under ECO4)

Insulation can be fitted or replaced in your property based on multiple circumstances like the type of home you live in, whether you are the homeowner or privately renting tenant, if E.ON is your energy supplier, and if you are claiming one of the benefits above.

Cavity wall insulation with E.ON

As well as the criteria mentioned above, the list below will likely help you qualify for free E.ON cavity wall insulation:

  • You are living in or own an electrically heated home
  • Your walls are not already filled (extraction can be done in specific cases)
  • Your house is a certain number of years old, and you don’t already have new cavity wall insulation
  • Your brick walls are over 260mm thick, this demonstrates that you have a cavity wall
  • If you are a private tenant you could be eligible for the scheme with your landlord’s permission. Often, houses that qualify for cavity wall insulation have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F, or G

Loft insulation with E.ON

Loft insulation is another commonly used option for E.ON customers who qualify for free funding through ECO4. E.ON loft insulation grants can help households improve the heat retention and energy saving capabilities in their homes. It has been estimated that this type of insulation can save the average property anywhere between £240 and £445 a year on their energy bills (according to Energy Saving Trust based on energy prices as of January 2024).

Saving the energy that would normally escape through the loft hatch because of a lack of loft insulation in your property (particularly a detached house or bungalow) can be easily achieved with loft insulation. This will be fully funded if you qualify for ECO4 energy efficient grants with E.ON.

Without a grant, depending on the style of property you have, the cost of insulating your loft with basic blanket insulation can start from about £345, although this can be a significant investment for some.
