If your energy supplier is SSE, insulation grants could help you lower the cost of your yearly bills. Uninsulated homes typically lose around one third of their heat through their walls and loft. By checking your eligibility for an SSE insulation grant through the government’s ECO4 scheme you could protect your home from heat loss as well as become more energy efficient by lowering your carbon emissions. Read on to find out how you could free SSE insulation funding as part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.

Can you qualify for SSE insulation?

Along with other large energy companies, SSE is required to provide grants on behalf of the ECO scheme to eligible domestic properties to help them get energy efficient home improvements installed without any cost to them. This is to provide financial aid to low-income homes across the UK that cannot afford to pay their annual energy bills and are losing a great deal of heat and money due to poor heat saving methods.

In order to qualify for free insulation with SSE under the ECO4 scheme, you need to meet certain requirements. This includes owning your home or being a privately renting tenant, having a low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating due to poor heat retention, being on a low income, or receiving an income-related benefit from the list below.

  • Warm Home Discount Scheme Rebate
  • Pension Credit Savings Credit (newly eligible through ECO4)
  • Housing Benefit (newly eligible through ECO4)
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Child Benefits
  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you could get loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, room in roof insulation, internal wall insulation, and more through the scheme, depending on what your home needs.

How can you get free SSE cavity wall insulation installed in your home?

The list below details the requirements of your home in order for it to be suitable for SSE cavity wall insulation funding:

  • Your property is electrically heated
  • Your walls do not already have a filling (extraction can be done in certain cases)
  • You live in an older house, and you don’t already have cavity wall insulation
  • Your brick walls are more than 260mm thick as this shows that you have a cavity wall
  • Your home has an EPC rating of E, F, or G

Is SSE cavity wall insulation right for your property?

To know whether SSE cavity wall insulation is right for your home you should consider the following:

  • When your house was constructed and if it meets building regulations
  • If your house encounters a lot of wind driven rain on the external wall it might not be possible to install SSE cavity wall or loft insulation
  • If your home is exposed to flooding, cavity wall insulation might not be right for you

How can SSE loft insulation funding benefit you?

By improving the energy efficiency of your home and preventing heat from escaping through your roof, loft insulation can save you money every year on your bills. Depending on the style of your home, free loft insulation from SEE could save you anywhere between £120 and £280. As well as this loft insulation from SSE can reduce your household’s carbon footprint, leading to substantial reductions in CO2 emissions which will help the environment and climate change.

Saving the energy that usually escapes through your loft hatch due to a lack of loft insulation in your property (particularly detached houses or bungalows) can be easily funded if you meet the qualifying ECO4 criteria to get a free SSE insulation grant.
